$25,000 Fields Renovation

UPDATE: from the Kick Off Tournament Committee

The KOT Board of Directors is proud to report on extraordinary efforts to improve the playing surface of all 7 pitches (12 acres) used at the KOT. The City of Rancho Cordova, a strong supporter for many years, has funded the renovation of fields at Cordova High and Mills Middle Schools, and made doing so the highest priority!

Funds ($25,000) being distributed to the Sacramento Valley Rugby Foundation (SVRF), through Cordova Community Council and Rancho Cordova Athletic Assn., will cover costs for this endeavor. Additional labor and equipment are being provided by Folsom Cordova Unified School District. To maximize the donation’s effect, expertise, equipment and supplies, in management and installation, are being donated.

Issues with the playing surface (holes, hard ground, and high & low areas, along with the underlying problem of gophers and the ground grubs they feed on) are being eliminated. Tractor work, pulling a De-thatcher / Land-leveler, has begun. The project will be completed in time for play! Budget includes $12,000 for 300+ tons for a topdressing of sand, $2,500 for slit seed ryegrass, $2,000 for a safe insecticide, $1,600 for fertilizer, and all labor and equipment needed to adjust irrigation and apply.

The community effort to improve the playing surface will directly benefit, not only the KOT rugby event this January, but also numerous other sports to follow on these fields. The KOT will be the 1st event held on the refurbished facility! The SVRF is proud to lead this effort for all local and visiting ruggers!
